Blutchie’s Story
It's every pet parent's nightmare. Your dog gets attacked by another dog. That nightmare unfolded for one local family, their dog Bluchie got loose and he was attacked by another dog. He was able to find his way home but his leg, belly and ear were torn apart.
Bluchie is a part of our Friends of Wake County Animal Center Community Outreach program. When another nonprofit revised their mission, their Raleigh Community Outreach program found itself without support,we invited them into our nonprofit so none of the families who depended on their financial support were forced to give up their pets due to lack of finances. We made a commitment to be there for the life of their current pets. With the help of our friends at DEGA Mobile Veterinary Care Bluchie was up to date on vaccines, a blessing given we don't know who the other dog was who bit him.
The first Emergency Room visit was an 8 hour ordeal for the family that cost us $1000. The next day they were back in the ER with an infection and another 5 hour visit that cost us another $350. Since the wounds could not be sealed until the infection was resolved that meant vet visits every 1-2 days for the next few weeks. The family had already given up workdays to take care of Bluchie, so we moved his care to a local vet that made it easier on the family and reduced our costs from Emergency care to regular care. Because of our supporters Bluchie is on his way to recovering from his ordeal. We want to thank Wake Veterinary Medical Center and Raleigh Community Animal Hospital for their compassionate care and extraordinary service.
